His specialist areas include:

Linking freshwater abiotic drivers (flows and water temperatures) to aquatic biological patters.

Developing statistical models to link abiotic drivers to biotic patters

Freshwater conservation planning

Freshwater biological surveys (aquatic macroinvertebrates and fish)

He has successfully undertaken and completed a number of non-solicited research projects for the Water Research Commission[1].

He is currently lead researcher and/ or project leader on four WRC projects:

water temperatures and river ecology (K5/1799);
development of river conservation targets (K5/1796);
developing a probabilistic statistical model to predict wetland condition by type (K8/928);
a project due to start linking water quality to land use changes.

During 2010, clients for freshwater ecological consultancy projects have included the eThekwini municipality, Wetland Consulting Services, and WSP Green by Design.
